BEER AT DANCE
CLUB OFFICIAL FINED
For permitting beer to be consumed in a dance hall in High Street, Lower Hutt during the progress of a tennis club dance, William Bernard O'Shaughnessy, a member of the committee of the club, who was M.C- at the dance, was yesterday fined £10 by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., in the Lower Hutt Court. Mr. N. T. Gillespie pleaded guilty on behalf of O'Shaughnessy, and also on behalf of two other members of the club committee, Daniel Patrick" Smith, and Leslie Owen Evans, each of whom was convicted and ordered to pay costs for the same offence.
Neville Haigh was fined 30s for being in possession of beer in the dance hall and 30s for supplying beer there to John Patrick Guthrie, who was fined £3 for. drinking it. Neither Haigh nor Gtjthrie appeared in court.
The police evidence was that Haigh and Guthrie were found drinking beer in a small room in the dance hall.
Mr. Gillespie said that neither Haigh nor Guthrie was a member of the club. The trouble arose from the fact that the door to the hall was left unattended after 10 o'clock, from which time the dance became a: "free show."
A fine- of £3 was inflicted on. Charles Murray Cathro for haying liquor in his possession in the vicinity of the Belmont Hall while a dance was in progress.
