MR. J. S. MACARTHUR
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. James Smith Macarthur, who was until earlier this year managing director and chairman of the Dental and Medical Supplies Company, Ltd., Wellington. The late Mr. Macarthur was born at Dunedin 67 years ago and was edu-
cated at the Otago Boys' High School. He entered the Colonial Bank and was with that bank and the Bank of New Zealand for twelve years, but left banking in 1903 to join the New Zealand Consolidated Dental Company, Ltd., which later became the Dental and. Medical Supplies Company. He was secretary of the company for nine years and then became general manager in 1912. In 1916 he became a member of the board as. .managing director, and in 1922 he was elected chairman of directors as well; He held both offices until he retired last May. Mr. Macarthur was also on the boards of directors of the Victoria Laundry, Turnbull and Jones, Ltd., and the Golden Bay Cement Company. ;
Mr. Macarthur was a Rugby player in his youth and was also a foundation member of the Wellington Tennis Club. In later years he took up bowling and was president of the Kelburn Bowling Club for a year. He was Grand Master of Aorangi Masonic Lodge. ■
Mr. Macarthur was married twice, first to Miss Hannay, of Wellington1, and then to Miss Gibson-Smith, also of Wellington, who survives him. There are two sons of each marriage—Lieutenant lan Macarthur, of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, Mr. Colm Macarthur (Wellington), Able Seaman Alister Macarthur, R.N.V.R. (overseas), and Mr. Ross Macarthur (Wellington) .
