PROGRESSIVE MOVE
SOLE CRICKET SELECTOR
Warm approval of. the action of the New Zealand Cricket Council in making Mr. T. C. Lowry sole selector, thereby departing from the practice of appointing four selectors, was given at the annual meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association by Mr. P. B. Broad. It was eighteen years ago, ,he said, that four selectors, one for each main centre, had been appointed, and the progress of the game in New Zealand had been blocked for years. It had been most disastrous, and one of the most progressive things done in recent years had been the appointing of a sole selector. It might be that in a country as widespread as New Zealand three selectors would be better, but certainly the old' system of having one selector for each centre was bad. Unless the council were supported in the new move he felt it might revert to the old system. Mr. J. H. Phillipps said the outgoing committee had given the new system its support.
