VICEREGAL. His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) returned to Wellington this morning after a brief rest at Rotorua, where he went to recuperate from an attack of influenza. The Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), who was to have left for Auckland this evening to represent the Government at a reception to the i American newspapermen who are visiting New Zealand by the PanAmerican Clipper, will leave tomorrow night, all arrangements having been set back a day by the late arrival of the Clipper. The Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) returned from the south today. The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. A. Hamilton), Minister without portfolio in the War Cabinet, returned to Wellington from the south this morning and attended a meeting of the Cabinet during the forenoon. Mr. E. Caradus, Senior Inspector of Secondary Schools and Director of Educational Services, R.N.Z.A.F., was a passenger to Hamilton by the Limited last evening. Mr. R. A. Dickel, M.A., headmaster of the Reef ton District High School, has been appointed an inspector of schools. Mr. D. M. Rae, principal of the Auckland Teachers' Training -College, who entered a private hospital in Auckland last week on account of a sudden illness, was reported on Monday to be making progress. Mr. J. G. Barclay, M.P., arrived from Auckland today by the Limited express. The Rev. D. R. McDonald, of Ellerslie, has been appointed Moderator of the Auckland Presbytery for a term of six months. Mr. H..H. Sterling, iiaison officer to the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, arrived from Auckland today by train. The Rev. W. A. Carmichael, of Fortrose, Southland, has accepted a call to the Knox Presbyterian Church, Hamilton East. The induction will take place on September 3. Parishioners of St. George's Church, Seatoun, gathered in large numbers in the Seatoun Kiosk on Sunday after evensong to entertain the vicar, the Rev. C. E. Willis, C.F., who is serving with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. In making a, I presentation to Mr. Willis, LieutenantColonel E. M. Stace said that although he had not been in the district verylong Mr. Willis had endeared himself to everyone. On behalf of the Ladies* Guild, Miss J. Lauchlan presented Mrs. Willis with a posy of primroses. Replying, Mr. Willis said that he had enjoyed his stay at Seatoun and he asked the parishioners to support the acting vicar, the Yen. Archdeacon Germyn,, who was due to arrive from Greymouth shortly. - Mr. Willis was , recently entertained at a similar function by the churchpeople of Miramar.
