BRAVERY AWARD
TWO OFFICERS CONFUSED
The coincidence of there being in the Royal Army Medical Corps two officers of the same name and initials has resulted in the mistaken announcement in New Zealand that the Military Cross had been awarded to Captain J. L. Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Reynolds, of Garden Court Flats, Mission Bay, Auckland, for bravery during the evacuation of Dunkirk. Actually the decoration was awarded to another Captain J. L. Reynolds.
When the award was announced in London it appears that Rabbi Dr. L. Rabinowitz, Chaplain to the Forces, commented upon it in a London newspaper, confusing the two officers, and believing that the former Aucklander had been decorated. His comments wer<s sent to New Zealand by the London correspondent of the "Evening Post."
Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds, of Auckland, on reading the published announcement, expressed surprise at the news, and stated that they had no knowledge of any such award, and in fact believed that their son had not been out of England. After the announcement their inquiries by cablegram confirmed the fact that confusion had occurred between the two names in London.
