AMERICAN PLANES

NEW OFFER MADE TO BRITAIN

1300 A MONTH LATE IN 1941

(Received August 14, 9 a.m.)

WASHINGTON, August 13

Mr. Arthur Purvis, chief of the British Purchasing Commission, announced that the United States had offered to sell to Britain 1300 to 1400 planes a month, beginning late in 1941. •

He said that the offer was in the nature of a counter-offer to British moves to obtain 3000 planes a month. "We are considering the matter carefully and are endeavouring to work out a project," he said. The offer was made* after consideration of America's own defence needs.
