RAIN DEVELOPING

Special forecast for Wellington;— Moderate to strong northerly winds.

Weather dull and mild, with rain developing. A southerly change likely after about 24 hours.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole for the next 24 hours, issued by the Meteorological Office at noon today, is for moderate to strong north-easterly to northwesterly winds, with a change to southerlies probably advancing over most of the South Island during tomorrow. The weather will be fail at first in eastern areas, and in the north, but unsettled conditions will gradually extend from the south and west, with rain and drizzle developing in most districts. Conditions will be mild and humid, but will become cooler in the south. Conditions are rather disturbed to the west of New Zealand. A depression is advancing from the south, while a new, and more vigorous, disturbance is advancing from the northern Tasmari Sea. Moderate easterlies predominated on the Canterbury coast, and elsewhere winds were westerly to south-westerly, moderate to strong, and reaching gale force in places. The weather was fine in the eastern districts of the North Island, otherwise mainly fair, but with a few isolated light showers in western districts and in the far north and south. Temperatures were mild to warm. This morning cloud had increased considerably, skies were cloudy and overcast, with a few fogs in the western Cook Strait area, and scattered rain in the western districts of the South Island. North-easterly to north-westerly winds prevailed, light to fresh over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong. Westport recorded 24 points of rain, Arthur's Pass 38, Queenstown 24, and Puysegur Point 72 it was cloudy to overcast in Auckland yesterday, with a fresh west-south-west wind. It was still cloudy this morning, but the wind was from the north. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 75 degrees and 62.3 degrees respectively. Wellington had a fair and mild day, with a moderate to fresh north-west wind. The weather was rather unsettled this morning and the wind had become strong. Maximum and minimum temperatures were 70.9 degrees and 58.5 degrees respectively. During the morning Christchurch had fair weather and a moderate south-south-west wind. Cloud increased during the afternoon and the wind changed to a light north-east and gradually freshened. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 68.9 degrees and the minimum 55.8 degrees. Today the sky was overcast, and a strong north-easterly blew.

During the morning the weather was fine in Dunedin, but in the afternoon it was fair to cloudy. The light north-easterly wind gradually increased, and was strong by this morning.
