ORAZIO CASUALTIES
FATE OF PASSENGERS
CONFLICTING REPORTS
(Received January 25, 11.30 a.m.)
LONDON, J.anuary 24. • Despite the report by the French Admiralty at Marseilles that all the passengers of the Italian liner Orazio, which was destroyed by fire in the Mediterranean, were rescued, Italian sources still insist that a number are missing. Signor Mussolini's newspaper "Popolo Italia" publishes a report from Genoa blaming the French for the loss of life because "a French patrol delayed the liner four hours to remove German passengers. The Orazio would have been able to reach Barcelona and save all her passengers if those hours had not been lost."
An investigation reveals that the fire started after' a series of explosions in the .port motor. The crew said that sparks from a seized piston exploded the fuel oil.
