THE SEASON'S END
HARD OF HEARING LEAGUE
Two presentations were made at the Christmas party given last night in the English-speaking Union rooms by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing. Father Christmas presided in a room garlanded with streamers and gay with Christmas favours. The flowers included a lovely bowl of deep larkspurs. One of the presentations was made to Miss M. Eggleton, teacher of the. lip-reading class, who was hostess, from the league's student members, and the other was made to Mrs. J. S. Nicholson, honorary secretary, on the executive committee's behalf. In addition gifts were given each guest by the bearded benefactor in a red cloak, who had made a spectacular entrance through the curtained doorway of the large clubroom.
Items (the chief of which was the largesse of Santa Claus as portrayed by Mr. J. Hutchinson), were given by Pamela Walker (tap dance) and Charles Petherick (eccentric dance), competitions being directed by the master of ceremonies, Mr. A. E. Boyes. Dr. William Macdonald, the league's president, presented certificates to the following members of the first-aid class before supper was served:—Mesdames J. S. Nicholson, M. Burgess, L. Cook, A. Brown, E. Stead, Misses Mavis Eggleton, E. Atack, C. Smith, N. Mayo, J. Fonseca, and Mr. I. Auld.
