CANBERRA, This Day

In the debate regarding sending an Australian force overseas, Mr. J. Curtin, Leader of the Opposition, moved as an amendment, "That the House is of opinion jthat Australia's man-power is required for the defence and safety of the Commonwealth, and is opposed to the dispatch of expeditionary forces."

The amendment was defeated by 33 votes to. 28, with the voting strictly on party lines.
