FEELING IN ROME
WAR PREPARATIONS ACCELERATED

LONDON, August 24,
Italian war preparations have sudr denly been accelerated. Responsible quarters are beginning to express the fear that war is almost inevitable within a matter of days.
The calling up of further Italian reservists has been delayed in order to avoid aggravating the crisis. There is still a certain amount of optimism in Italy, and there is no sign of alarm in the streets of Rome.
Official circles do not disguise their anxiety to avoid a catastrophe.
A message from Rome states that extraordinary calm reigns there. There are still hopes that war will b a. avoided.
