"ONE-MAN SHOW"

WELLINGTON SKETCH CLUB

The work of Mr. W. Milne was featured at a "one-man show" held recently at the Wellington Sketch Club. The exhibition consisted of some 30 paintings in oil, pastel, and watercolour. Landscapes in water colour predominated, although good examples of still life and portraiture showed the versatility of this artist. In the landscapes brilliant colour and lively handling were combined with sound construction, and in each picture an emotional approach to the subject was evident. Interesting departures from the spacious .landscapes, were two watercolours of well-known city streets, each of which displayed, a good appreciation of tone as well as of colour: Some of Mr. Millie's best pictures were painted in the vicinity of Tauranga and its sunny beaches. His colourful headlands and azure skies would seem to explain why that district is always popular with our landscape painters. The exhibition was attended by "a large number of members and friends. Recent "one-man shows" have brought to light a considerable amount of talent, and it has been decided to make them a regular feature of the club's programme.
