SOVIET OBJECTIONS
REFORTIFICATION OF AALAND ISLANDS
GENEVA, May 23,
Thje Soviet raised an objection at the meeting of the League Council to the requests of Finland and Sweden to refortify the neutral Aaland Islands, in the Baltic.
It is understood that Russia wishes to use the Aaland Islands in wartime as submarine bases for cutting off the vital iron and steel trade between Sweden and Germany, She also fears that Germany might capture them from Sweden and use the base's for attacking Soviet warships based on Leningrad.
