LONDON, April 28. v On the fourth day of the Newmarket First Spring Meeting, the following was the result of the ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS, a sweepstakes with 1000 guineas added; second 10 per cent, and third 5 per cent, of the whole stake; for three-year-old fillies; 1 mile.
R. S. Clark's br f Galatea 11, by Dark Legend—Galaday 11, by Sir iGaUahad 111, 9.0 1 Lord Derby's eh f Aurora, by Hyperion—Rose Red, 9.0 ...... 2 Lady J. Joicey's b' f Olein, by Beresford—Offspring 3 Eighteen starters. Won by three lengths, half a "length between second and third. Winner bred in ' France and trained by J. Lawson at Manton, Wiltshire.
Galatea 11, the winner of the first of the season's classics for the fillies, failed to score in a couple of starts last season, but in the second, of them she was ! third to Seaway and Aurora in the Gheveley Park Stakes, 6 furlongs, at Newmarket on October 12. Dark Legend, her sire, is a Dark" Ronald horse who: was third in Gay Crusader's War Derby and has since stood for many years in ■ France.—'■Ranjgatira*"
