UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The preliminaries of the universities' boxing championships were decided this morning. The finals will take place tonight. Results:—■
Bantamweight.—Parr (Otago) beat Peterson (Canterbury). The bout was stopped in the last round. Muir (Victoria) outpointed Aitken (Auckland).
Featherweight.—Greaves (Otago) outpointed McCutchan (Auckland). Maxwell (Canterbury) knocked out Armstrong (Victoria) in the second round.
Lightweight.—Skelly (Otago) outpointed Blake (Canterbury). McClew (Auckland) won by default from Sheehan (Victoria).
Welterweight.—McFadzien (Otago) outpointed Cohen (Victoria). Willis (Auckland) outpointed Kearns (Canterbury).
Middleweight.—Ryan (Victoria) won from Amies (Canterbury) by a technical knock-out in the third round. Cornish (Otago) outpointed Bassett (Auckland).
Light-heavyweight.—Dobson (Canterbury) won by default from Bryers (Victoria). Andrew (Otago) outpointed Alison (Auckland).
Heavyweight.—Barry (Auckland) defaulted to Mack (Otago). McLaren (Victoria) outpointed Gomez (Canterbury).
Italy now has 2430 miles of railway operated electrically, by far the greatest milage of any European country.
