THE HOLIDAY

ANOTHER FINE DAY

HOW IT IS BEING SPENT

A FULL PROGRAMME

Wellington was practically deserted today, except for those making for one of the many sports attractions. Locally summer and winter sports overlapped with the close of the summer ,season. Motorists, reports the Automobile Association, Wellington, made far greater use of the roads than last Easter, when the weather made long trips unpleasant. Heavy traffic is,reported on both the main outlets, to the Manawatu and Wairarapa.

The continuation of fine weather has enabled all sports fixtures to be carried on through Easter. The Easter bowling tournament continues today, and post-section play will start tomorrow. Many Wellington bowlers are visiting tournaments elsewhere. Crowds have gone to Featherston for the second day of the Tauherenikau race meeting. The Paremata Boating Club's Easter regatta is being continued. Rugby football matches are being played out" of town, including Hutt v. Masterton Old Boys, at I&asterton. Closing matches for the cricket season being played today are Karori v. North Shore, at Karori, and Mercantile League v. Wairarapa, at Kelburn. A hockey match is being played between Sydenham (Christchurch) and Karori at Karori. Tennis tournaments are continuing. The North Island golf championship at Palmerston North will conclude today, but the provincial championship at Hutt continued today, and will conclude tomorrow. The Hutt carnival continues at the Lower Hutt Recreation Ground, and as an attraction the Petone Club is holding a Possibles v. Probables Rugby match. ?

The excursion made by the Rangatira to Picton this morning was taken advantage of by about 1800 people. The ship left at 8.3 a.m. and quickly made her way out of the harbour, her passengers presenting a gay sight with their multi-coloured holiday garb. The Rangatira was due at Picton at 10.30 a.m., and a special train met the boat and left for Blenheim. Trips were made by launches to the bays and inlets around Picton. The Rangatira left Picton at about 2.30 o'clock this afternoon, and is due' to arrive <at Wellington at 5 o'clock. She is to leave on her scheduled time, 7.45 p.m., for Lyttelton. ;'
