The Hawera Trotting Club's Meeting opened in perfect weather. There was a record attendance, the gate taking being nearly double last year's. The totalisator handled £22,289 10s, compared with £14,951 on the first day last year. Following the Manaia Handicap there was an inquiry into the running of Frontier Boy. It was alleged that he broke unduly and won by this means. He was disqualified and the race was awarded to All Bingen. Results: —
