HOMING PIGEONS
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society opened its young bird racing season with a flock race from Hunterville, 101 miles airline. One hundred and fifty-three pigeons, representing eighteen members, were liberated by Mr. G. Shindler in fine weather. The six highest velocities were as follows: J. Boch's w.g.h. 44-38 (1124.8 yds per minute), 1; J. Baxter and son's b.c.h. 204-38 (1120.9), 2; A. Croskery and son's b.p.c. 380-38 (1118.9), 3; C. Webster and son's bk.c. 254-38 (1118.9), 4; Heyward and Hoare's b.b.c. 325-38 (1114.5), 5; F. Blair's b.c.c. 225-38 (1114.3), 6. Section placings were as follows:— West section: J. Boch's w.g.h. 44-38, 1; J Baxter and son's b.ch. 204-38, 2; C. Webste*r and son's bk.c. 254-38, 3; Heyward and Hoare's b.b.c. 325-38, 4; F. Blair's blk.c. 225-38, 5; A. Reader's b.c.h. 70-38 6 East section: A. Croskery and son's b.p.c 380-38, 1; McCarrison Bros r.c.h. 985-38, 2; L. Perkins's b.c.c. 175-38 3; E. O'Dea's r.c.c. 276-38, 4; F Flipp and son's m.h., 438-38, 5; E. Day's b.c.c. 994-38, 6. Next Saturday's race will be flown from Waiouru, 134 miles airline.
