ALMA'S NEXT RACE

HAZLETT CUP WEIGHTS

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, This Day.

There will be quite a number of fresh horses from Wingatui stables making their appearance on the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Meeting on Saturday.

In the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap the Invercargill Cup winner Alma is due to make her next appearance. She has been carefully looked after since that victory at New Year and is in great shape.

In the Owhiro Hurdles Delrain and Song Boy may be two newcomers. Of the pair, the latter promises to run the better race.

Our Empire, by British Empire— Wingatui, will be among those in the Novice Handicap.

High Glee and Valantua will probably be among the fresh acceptors. The former has a doubtful leg at the moment but he has done a fair amount, of light work. The latter is very fit after a short let-up but he may not yet be quite forward enough. Aravane, Dissemble, and Gipsy Fair are newcomers in the Abbotsford Handicap. The first-named was a bit unlucky not to win at Tapanui, where Dissemble and Gipsy Fair both succeeded. Aravane is a half-sister to Araboa who should prove a very useful sort to follow. A stablemate in Strip may also be produced in the same race, but it will depend on what: weight he is allotted. He was hopelessly left at Tapanui and no line was obtainable on his form.

Five local two-year-olds in Fancy Phil, Janefield, Night Pal, Queen Beth, and Savona are due to parade in the Hopeful Handicap. Night .Pal appeals strongly, and should he fail Janefield and Queen Beth will be there to lend a hand.

Half and Half is the only local newcomer in the Waihola Handicap. He did not have much to beat at Tapanui but he did it well and pulled up as fresh at the finish as when he started. Exclusive of penalties for a win in the Dunedin Cup, the following are the weights for the James Hazlett Gold Cup, 1 mile, on Saturday:—Royal Chief 9.10, Wild Chase 9.8, Night Wings 9.5, Queen of Song 9.3, Top Row 9.0, Rodeur 8.12, Kilrobe 8.7, Atua Rere 8.5.
