Erua, who has recently won three hurdle events in succession m Melbourne, has so impressed the /ianaicappers that for the Epsom Meeting last Saturday he was weighted, at 11.10, a rise of 151b on his previous victory at Moonee Valley and I6li> above the weight given to Triteiiia, who won the 1937 V.R.C. Grand National Hurdles. The decision of the Taranaki Jockey Club to confine the juvenile events on the programme for its Autumn Meeting next month to two-year-olds appears to have met with general approval. Many owners of two-year-olds are not inclined to race them against horses a year older under handicap conditions. News of Whenuakura, the most brilliant two-year-old of his year before he broke down and now seven years old, comes indirectly from Melbourne, where the Chief Ruler gelding has been racing without showing any promise of staging a comeback the last twelve months. The report states that the former cross-country rider W. Sandiford, who has been training Whenuakura for Mr. G. Moore, has surrendered his permit to train, as he has become proprietor of a hotel, and he has returned the gelding to the Dominion.
