MASTERTON, This Day.

A satisfactory response in the payment of rates is reported by Mr. J. C. D. Mackley, clerk of the/ Masterton County Council. * At discount, date, January 27, 98.1 per cent, of the current year's rates had been collected, as compared with 97.4 per cent, for the previous year. The total rates levied were £25,943 19s ,2d and the amount collected, less 5 per cent, discount, amounted to £24,953 Is Id, leaving an amount of only £438 19s Id outstanding.
