OBITUARY
MR.TIEMI RIKIHANA
One of the best-known and most highly-respected members of the Maori race in the Horowhenua district. Mr. T. Rikihana, died suddenly on Saturday evening at the Palmerston North Public Hospital, at the age of 58, after a very short illness. The late Mr. Rikihana, who took an active and leading part in'all matters concerning his people, was a foundation member of the once-famous Otaki Native Brass Band.. Municipal and local. affairs received his keenest1 attention, and. when Otaki was declared a borough he was elected a councillor^ being among the first Natives to gain the office. He was a vestryman at St. Mary's, Levin, and was for twenty-five years ,a layreader at the Maori Mission Church, Otaki. He leaves a widow, three daughters (Mesdames J. Ropata.. Wellington, J. Steeples, Sydney, and J. Webb, Levin) and two sons, Messrs. Heni and Wiremu Rikihana (Levin). The interment took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Maori Mission Cemetery, and was attended /by a large concourse, both Maori and'pakeha.
