Much of the work in connection with Physical Fitness Week and its observance in the Hutt Valley has already been carried out, and very comprehensive arrangements have been made. The following programme submitted by the joint committee of the Hutt and Petone Physical Welfare and Recreation Committees has been approved by the Hutt committee:— Saturday, February 18.—Swimming and life-saving on Petone Beach; walking excursions under the direction of the Tararua Tramping Club. Sunday.—Ministers to be asked to make reference to the week in their sermons. Monday.—Boating carnival Petone Beach; the usual weekly meeting of the Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club at the Hutt Recreation Ground. Tuesday.—Youth night at the Hutt Recreation Ground. Wednesday.—Sports meeting at' the Petone Recreation Ground. Thursday.—Swimming carnival at the Riddiford Baths, Lower Hutt. Friday.—A parade through both boroughs, representative of sports bodies and other organisations. Saturday, February 25.—Beach carnival at Petone. No charges are to be made, but voluntary contributions will be accepted. At a recent meeting the Petone committee also approved the programme, with one or two alterations.
