YOUNG PADDON FIT

ELECTRIC FLASH IMPROVED

(Special from" Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, September 30. An unlucky runner in his last outing was General Riske, and as he has been kept going through the winter he will be difficult to beat when he makes his next appearance. Electric Flash is definitely on the up grade judging by his good third in the hurdle race on the concluding day at Avondale. The Prince Merriwee gelding has been a very long time regaining: his best form, but his turn may not be long now. He will contest the cross-country race at Paeroa on Monday. ' A notable entrant for the open sprint on Monday is Golden Sheila, who at her best is brilliant. As a two-year-old this mare won the Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie, and her success was so convincing that she appeared to have a, bright future, but while on rare occasions she acted up to that effort her forrri in the interim has been a trifle disappointing. Day Wind has mixed many indifferent runs with some brilliant performances, and in consequence he is still nicely placed in the handicaps. He was allowed to decline today's engagement in the Poland Cup at Paeroa, his home track, for he is thought to be scarcely ready for a strenuous handicap, but he may be produced in the shorter distance race on Monday. This is the type of race that will suit this free galloper and he is a possibility if stepped out. It has been said that the rider of Young Paddon desired to keep away from the rails on the second day at

Avondale, pointing out that the track was firmer in the centre, but he was instructed to stick to the fence. This he did to the letter, and when he was well clear of the field half a furlong from the post it looked the right way home, but suddenly in the last few strides he was swamped by horses finishing out in the middle of the course, and finally beaten out of a place. On that effort he may be a good prospect in the open sprint at Paeroa on Monday, particularly as he is very well at present.
