DECLINE AT CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
A decline of £63,000 in the revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch for the half-year ended today compared with the same period last year, is shownby the return issued by the Department. For the month of September there was a decline of £8218 compared with September in 1937, but an increase of nearly £5000 compared with August -of this year. Last year at the same date the six (months' total showed an increase of £205,702, compared with the same halfyear in 1936 and the month's total an increase of more than £35.000. The total revenue for the past six months was £1,036,7£8, and the revenue for September was £187,715. The previous year's figures were £1,099,805 and £195,933 respectively.
