THEIR EXCELLENCIES
PRESENT
There was an air of gaiety among the large audience which attended the opening of the exhibition of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in the National Gallery last night. This was a special occasion as it was the fiftieth jubilee of the society.
The gallery looked particularly bright, the pictures being displayed and forming an excellent background for the many beautiful gowns worn. Large bowls of red rhododendrons were effective on the long table in the gallery from which the speeches were made. Their Excellencies, who were received by the president, Mr. G. G. Gibbes Watson and Mrs. Watson, were accompanied by Lieut. R. S. le H. Lom-bard-Hobson and Mrs. Byron.
Others in the official party were Mr. W. Fergusson Hogg and Mrs. Hogg, Mr.'W. Ernest Hunt and Mrs.. Hunt, Mrs. Murray Fuller, Mr. W. S. and Mrs. Wauchop, Mr. A. D. Her Excellency wore a gown of rosecoloured georgette with a smart shoulder cape of soft fur, and Mrs. Byron a black gown with coat of summer ermine.
Mrs. G. G. Gibbes Watson was in shot blue taffeta; Mrs. W. Fergusson Hogg cornflower blue taffeta; Mrs. Ernest Hunt, black beaded georgette; Mrs. Murray Fuller, trained gown of brocaded black satin; Mrs. W. S. Wauchop, heavy black marocain -with sequins; Mrs. T. D. H. Hall, black lace with red and white cluster of flowers; Mrs. Roland Hipkins, black marocain; Mrs. Marcus King, wine-coloured velvet; and Mrs. Harry Atkinson, floral ninbn. -
