EASIER AT SOME CENTRES

At Johnsonville and some other centres livestock prices had an easier tendency yesterday, but the Addington and Westfield markets were firm. Heavy yardings of beef came forward at Westfield, but keen /competition steadied values at last week's advanced rates. In spite of keen competion, values for the larger yarding of sheep were inclined to ease, although ewes recovered some of the ground lost in the last few weeks. Average yardings of calves made. firmer rates for prime sorts, with little demand ior poor quality. Porkers sold steadily at last week's rates, with values for _ a slightly /larger yarding of baconers inclined to cheapen. More than 30 fat cattle were yarded for the Burnside sale, and quality was good all round. There were several pens of outstanding bullocks and heifers, and bidding was good, from the start, and the sale found prices firm throughout at late values. The demand for fat sheep was # better at the start than for some time past, values being up by Is to ls 6d a head. There was no easing as the sale progressed, and extra prime heavy wethers made to £1 19s 9d| Half a dozen spring lambs were offered, and these brought 4s to 5s a head less than those which were brought forward at the previous sale. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that a large yarding of cattle, including many cows, was offered at the Johnsonville sale yesterday The bullocks were of mixed quality, only a few pens of prime quality bullocks coming forward, the balance of the yarding consisting chiefly of light and medium-weight bullocks, with a fairproportion of unfinished sorts. All prime quality bullocks met with _ a ready sale, with prices slightly easier than those ruling last week, while prime cattle were hard to quit. .No prime heavy cows came forward, the yarding being of very, unfinished quality, with prices easier by 10s to 15s a head. Runners met with a good sale, with prices showing no alteration. Small calves met with a good sale. A small yarding of sheep was offered. Only a few pens of prime wethers came forward, the balance of the yarding consisting of light, to mediumweight sheep. Prices for all classes were easier by Is to ls 6d a head for both wethers and ewes. Hoggets met with a good sale at prices firm, while light and medium-weight quality were easier by 2s a head. Spring lambs met with keen competition, with prices at late rates. WAIRARAPA VALUES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercan-. tile Agency Co., Ltd., reports that fan entrief of sheep, cattle, and pigs were offered at the Masterton sales yesterday. Fat sheep were inclined to be easier, as were fat cows, but fat bullocks were firm at late prices. The first three pens of cows offered on account of the former made £10 4s, £9, and £8, and a prime pen of fat heifers on the latter's account made £10 10s, and a pen of fat Hereford cows £8 15s. One fat cow offered on account of Mr. Bunny topped the market at £11 13s. A total clearance was effected, as follows: mm J. PAHIATUA CATTLE FAIR. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report that a noticeable feature of the Pahiatua spring cattle fair on Tuesday was the lack of grown cattle, the yarding throughout being lacking in quality pens. A good yarding was offered to a large attendance. Steers of all ages, if well grown and showing quality, met with a ready sale under good competition. Fat cattle were in short supply and of mediocre quality, but sold readily at excellent prices. An attractive, pen of well-grown two-year PA. heifers offered on behalf of the Cornelius Estate sold at £5 16s. Other prices were:—Fat cattle: Fat shorthorn cows, £9 ss; light fat, small P.A. cows, £6. Store cattle: Three-year P.A. steers, small, £8 16s; 4-year S.H.-cross bullocks, £8), 14s; 2-year P.A. steers, £7 to £6 2s; coloured 2-year steers, £5 9s to £4 10s; yearling P.A. steers, small, £4 10s to £4 ss; store P.A; cows, good condition, £4 16s; 2-year P.A. heifers, good, £5 16s to £5; 2-year P.A.-cross, £4 17s to £4 ss; yearling P.A. heifers, £3 2s 6d to £2 16s; empty cows, ex dairy, £3 12s 6d to £3 10s. Small yardings of sheep and dairy cattle were offered at the usual stock sale. Fat and store sheep sold at late prices, and all dairy cattle were in keen demand. Quotations were:r—Fat 2-tooth wethers, 265; fat b.f. hoggets, 25s to 245; good ewe lambs, 29s 6d; hoggets, b.f., 18s 6d. Dairy cattle: Springing heifers. £8. LEVIN SALE. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that an entry of porkers of particularly good quality was among the yardings at the stock sale in Levin on Tuesday, and they were cleared at advanced rates. There was a large yarding in the cattle section and late market rates were fully maintained. Several lines of good fat hoggets were keenly sought after, and the top realisation was 28s 6d.' An entry of spring lambs brought 27s 3d. Quotations: —
