GOVERNMENT'S SOCIALISM?
(To tha Editor.)
Sir, —Amongst every speech made by Mr. Hamilton is a tirade against the present Government, calling it Socialist and alleging that the approaching election will be a battle of Socialism versus democracy, whilst the Press generally uses every endeavour to warn the electors of the danger of returning the Government at the next election. Sir, might I ask you to look back a little to the time of the late Rt. Hon. Mr. Seddon's Government? The then Opposition iti Parliament used similar tactics and made every effort to persuade the electors to vote the Government out because it said the members of the Seddon Government were the seven "Devils of Socialism," and it gave a lot of other abuse. The Press and the Opposition in those days, close on 40 years ago, did not succeed in frightening the electors, because they returned the Seddon Government again and again at the poll. Nor do I think that at the approaching election the electors will be fooled or misled. I did not vote Labour at last election, but I am making no mistake this time, as I realise the fundamental points of the Labour Government's policy, which are the greatest good to the greatest number and a more even distribution of wealth; it is Socialism, Mr. Editor, that you can well recommend to the electors because it will not harm any elector or the country.—l am, etc.,
EYES RIGHT,
