LADIES' GOLF
MIRAMAR TOURNEY
CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS
The first championship round in the Miramar ladies' open golf tournament was played this morning in fine weather, but there was a tricky northerly wind. Mrs. D. Crombie, New Zealand Tas- ' man Cup representative, who headed | the qualifying rounds yesterday, scored a fairly comfortable win over Mrs. Farmer by 4 and 3, while Miss K. Taylor, who has been one of the surprises of the tournament, extended an experienced player in Mrs. Pearce, the match going to the nineteenth hole before the latter won, 1 up. In addition to the championship round the first round of the Miramar Handicap was also played this morning by the next sixteen players following those who qualified for the championship. Results of this morning's pla_y were as follows:— Championship.—First round: Mrs Crombie beat Mrs. Farmer. 4 and 3; Miss Wheeler beat Mrs. Slater, 2 and 1- Mrs. Ellis beat Mrs. Ashe, 3 and 2; Miss M. Thompson beat Mrs. Welton Hogg, 3 and 2; Mrs. Richmond beat Mrs Wells, 1 up at the nineteenth; Mrs. Lewis beat Miss Slee, 1 up; Mrs. Russell beat Mrs. Banks, 3 and 1; Mrs. Pearce beat Miss K. Taylor, 1 up at the nineteenth. Miramar Handicap.—Mrs. Mcllroy beat Mrs. Edwards, 5 and 4; Mrs. Ellison beat Miss Turner, 5 and 4; Mrs McMahon beat Mrs. McCarthy, 1 up; Mrs Sherwood beat Mrs. Partridge, by default; Miss V. Campbell beat MrsForeman; Miss G. Campbell beat Mrs Whyte, 2 and 1; Mrs. Dykes beat Mrs Monkman, 1 up at the nineteenth; Mrs Farr beat Mrs. McKenzie, 4 and 3.
