LATE MR. J. A. CAMPBELL
The funeral of the late Mr. J. A. Campbell, Director of Horticulture, took place yesterday afternoon at the Karori Cemetery and was very largely attended.
Floral tributes were received from Great Britain and from all parts' of the Dominion.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Brian Kilroy, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and the Masonic portion of the ceremony by the Master of the Island Bay Lodge, Mr. W. F. C. Vine.
The chief mourners were Mrs. J. A. Campbell, Mrs. D. M. Grover, and Mrs. W. A. Simpson (daughters), Mrs. L. T. Watkins (sister-in-law), Mr. W. Campbell (brother), Mr. R. J. McCausland and Mr. L. T. Watkins (brothers-in-law), Mr. D. M. Grover and Mr. W. A. Simpson (sons-in-law). Mr. Campbell's son, Mr. Roderick Campbell, sailed from London for New Zealand on Saturday.
The pall-bearers at the house were Mr. W. Campbell, Mr. R. J. McCausland, and Mr. D. Grover (representing the family), Mr. W. T. Goodwin (Department of Agriculture and Institute of Horticulture), Mr. Campbell Spratt (Rotary Club), and Mr. R. A. Atkinson (Department of Agriculture). *?
At the cemetery the pall-bearers were Mr. W. A. Simpson (family), Mr. W. Benzies (New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board), Mr. J. H. Parker (New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation), Mr. T. C. Brash (Institute of Horticulture and Fruitgrowers' Association), Mr. W. Kerr and Mr. A. T. Wells (Island Bay Masonic Lodge).
Among those present were Mr. R. A. Wright, Mr. A. W. Buxton, Dr. C. J. Reakes, Dr. G. Craig, Captain Dawson, Mr. W. C. Robinson, and representatives of the following organisa-

For the six months ended December 31, 1937, Australian Alloy Steel, Ltd., made a loss of £10,151; but for the six months ended June 30 a profit of £661 was earned. The loss made in the earlier period included the writing down of unsaleable stock and adjustments in respect of goods previously invoiced. The directors state that the improvement in the finances of Hadfields (Australia), Ltd., the chief subsidiary of the company, -was-, even more marked. A loss of £10,802 in the first six months of the financial year was converted into a profit of £8537 in the latter period.
