WELLINGTON TOTALS
MORE THAN 100,000 NAMES
The first check up of the supplementary rolls for the six Wellington electorates, which closed at 6 p.m. on Thursday, was completed yesterday and showed a total of 22,325 names. There are 84,478 names on the main rolls -for Wellington, which closed on June 30, and taking into account the readjustments yet to be made to these i rolls, the aggregate number of electors will be more than 100,000. j The approximate figures are as follows:— . 1938. 1935. Main roll 84,478 51,802 Supplementary roll , 22,325 29,009 Total ~ 106,803 80,811 Details of the rolls for the six electorates, including Wellington West, a new electorate created by boundary readjustments, are as follows, the figures for 1935 being given in parentheses: — Wellington North 20,309 (13,845) Wellington Central 18,345 (14,392) Wellington East 16,870 (1T.508) Wellington South 16,693 (13,914) Wellington Suburbs ...... 16,375 ( ) Wellington West 18,211 (18,372) The total number on the main rolls for the Dominion which closed on June 30, is 865,742.. The final figures, including those of the supplementary rolls, are expected to be known next week. On August 31 the ■• progress total of all rolls was 925,798 and, judging from the exceptionally heavy rush lin most centres for inclusion on the supplementary rolls during the last fortnight or so, the indications are that the grand total for the Dominion may reach the million mark.
