SOCIALISM IN FRANCE
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Your correspondent "I. 'C. Rocks" has obviously, like so many other people, condemned Socialism without troubling to find out what it really means. He could have said a lot more about the "Socialist" Governments of France, none of which has ever taken office with a clear policy of socialisation. They have only tried to make capitalism more tolerable to the bulk of the population, with the result he mentions, and which is, if your correspondent will examine other countries, common to all capitalistic countries, but is a situation which would not arise in a truly Socialist Commonwealth. As for our "Fool's Paradise," we are indeed fortunate, to have some "fools" who will face up to. and tackle, a situation. May we have Labour again, and "Paradise Regained."—l am, etc., 5. HADFIELD.
