PEOPLE'S CAR
GERMAN PLAN OF PURCHASE
In Germany, Dr. Ley, head of the Workers' Front, instituted a savings system for the new people's car. Cards are to be issued, and 5-mark stamps will be pasted on these. Thus, a large proportion of the purchase price will be paid by the time the car is completed.
The German Workers' Front bureaux were besieged with applicants for forms. In many cases queues waited, and not all the people could be supplied at once. One bureau distributed 500 forms of application, and had to ask the remaining people to wait until the next day. Such a rush had not been expected. All classes were represented among those who applied, ranging from professional men who lost their fortunes in the inflation to workmen who can manage to save 5 marks a week. It is planned, to supply the three types of car (limousine, cabrio-limou-sine, and open car) simultaneously. The cars will be supplied after 750 marks have been paid in, i.e., after three years from the date of the commencement of saving, provided this method of payment is selected. On receipt of thevsayings card, a mark has to be paid. Arrears in the payments merely result in Postponed delivery. On leaving the works, the car will be msured for two years for a start. •.■•,■ The. three types were to be seen at| a recent motor-cycle race in Ger-j many; and thousands of prospective purchasers appeared to examine them.ij
