ELECTION CAMPAIGN
OTAKI ELECTORATE
MR. MONK AT PAHAUTANUI
On Thursday evening Mr. G. A. Monk, National candidate for Otaki, addressed a meeting at Pahautanui. There was a large audience. Mr. J. Barclay presided.
Mr. Monk referred to the concern of the Labour Government regarding the Otaki seat, as evidenced by the number of Ministers of the Crown who were speaking in this electorate. None of them were stating that they were Socialists. That fact was being kept in the background for the election. They were trying to make the issue on the past depression. If they must go back, why not select the period of prosperity preceding the depression? That prosperity was under the administration of a party that was not Labour. However, the new National Party accepted no responsibility for the past, it was concerned with the future. In a month's time the people would regain their freedom. (Loud applause.)
Mr. Monk explained fully the National Party's policy, and at the conclusion was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence.
