BADMINTON
FINALS PLAYED
WELLINGTON TOURNEY
With the exception of two events the Wellington badminton tournament was completed at the Winter Show building on Saturday night. There were no great surprises and most of the games were good. B. Boyd, who won the men's B grade singles, Miss J. Burns, who won the women's B grade singles, and A. Monteath, who won the men's C grade singles, none of whom have been long at the game, showed that they have the makings of good players. The finals of the men's singles and the combined doubles in the handicap events, the only matches not played, will be held tonight. At the close of play on Saturday night Mrs. A. H. Richards presented the trophies. The results are as follows: — CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS. A Grade. Men's Singles. Final.—E. A. Roussell beat G. A. Pearce, 15-12, 15-4. Women's Singles. Final. —Miss N. Fleming beat Miss F. Fernie, 11-2, 11-5. Men's Doubles. Final. —Ridyard and Pearce beat Neale and Roussell, 15-8, 17-15. Women's Doubles. Final. —Misses Fernie and Fleming beat Misses Payton and Payton, 15-11, 15-5. Combined Doubles. Final. —Roussell and Miss Fleming beat Pearce and Miss Fernie, 15-1, 15-6. B Grade. Men's Singles. Final.—B. Boyd beat A. J. Dirscoll, 20-16. Women's Singles. Final. —Miss J. Burns beat Miss Organ, 15-9. Men's Doubles. Second Round. —Driscoll and Le Seur beat McCullough and Walker, 21-16. Semi-finaL—Collins and Maris beat Driscoll and Le Seur, 21-16. Final.—Curtis and McLean beat Collins and Maris, 21-19. Women's Doubles. Final. —Misses Burns and Lubransky beat Misses Denby and Young, 15-4. Combined Doubles. Semi-finals.—Maris and Miss Ross beat Boyd and Miss Burns, 21-12; Driscoll and Miss Davies beat Colpus and Miss Lubransky, 21-16. Final.—Maris and Miss Ross beat Driscoll and Miss Davis, 21-10. C Grade. Men's Singles. Final. —A. Monteath beat C. Colpus, 21-14. Women's Singles. Final. —Miss Rose beat Miss McGregor, 15-4. HANDICAP EVENTS. Men's Singles. Third Round. —Maris (7) beat McCullough (10), 21-11. Semi-finals. —Monteath (11) beat Lubransky (owe 2), 21-5; Maris beat Niven (7), 21-16. The final will be played tonight. Women's Singles. Final.—Miss N. Payton (owe 15) beat Miss J. Burns (7), 15-9. Men's Doubles. Final.—Monteath and Niven (6) beat Waller and Waller (12), 21-16. Women's Doubles. i Final. —Misses Payton and Payton (owe 15) beat Misses Organ and Rhodes (6), 15-10. Combined Doubles. Semi-final. —McLean and Miss Organ (8) beat Day and Miss Upton (11); 21-19. The final will be played tonight.
