TO ESCAPE PURGE
SOVIET OFFICIALS FLEE
TOKIO, July 1. The Japanese state that Lushkov, Chief of the Far Eastern Political Department of Soviet Russia, has fled to Manchukuo.
The Tokio newspaper "Nichi Nichi Shimbun" states that Lushkov fled in order to escape Stalin's purge and is at the moment under police protection. His examination is expected to shed light on conditions in Russia. An officer of artillery, Major Frantzevitch, has also fled to Inner Mongolia to escape the purge.
Lushkov's wife is reported to have fled to Poland.
Meanwhile the Foreign Office has received information of increased Soviet assistance in munitions and credits to China.
