The presence here of the British, German, and Italian Ambassadors, and the Swedish and Swiss Ministers, is still the basis of a rumour that mediation or the arranging of a loan is contemplated.

In a statement in this connection, General Chiang Kai-shek said that China would not welcome either British or other mediation unless it will restore Chinese sovereignty.
