IRON ORE DEPOSITS

REQUEST FOR SURVEY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

WESTPORT, June 30,

The Buller Progress League' decided this evening to ask the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) to have a new geological and geophysical survey of possible iron ore deposits in the Buller district with the object of having iron and steel works established at Westport.

Mr. F. J. Rasmussen presented to the meeting samples of Onekaka and Buller iron ore in the natural state and when smelted. In the Buller ore there appeared to be a fairly high percentage of gold, which would help cover the cost of converting the iron ore into steel. .
