FINE WEATHER

SLIGHTLY MILDER

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light and variable winds. ' Weather fine and slightly milder,

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate south-easterly winds to the north of New Plymouth and Napier. Elsewhere winds will be variable in direction, with northerlies predominating in the far south. A few scattered showers are still probable between Wairoa and East Cape and in the far north, but otherwise the weather should be fine. Day temperatures' will be milder, but temperatures at night will be cold with some frosts.

The anti-cyclone centred yesterday over the south-western Tasman Sea has now extended over New Zealand, but its centre, as with other recent anticyclones, is in comparatively high latitudes. Consequently winds in the North Island this morning were southeasterly or easterly in direction, and there are still some scattered showers falling between Wairoa and East Cape and in the far north. Otherwise the weather is fine and clear over the Dominion.. Occasional showers fell yesterday in many places, but generally the weather was fair to fine. Winds have decreased in force, and over the South Island have begun to turn northerly in direction. Temperatures have been cool, with sharp frosts principally in the South Island. Auckland's weather yesterday was cool and changeable with some light passing showers. It was, however, mostly fair. There was a light breeze from the south-west which during the night turned to the southeast. The weather this morning was clear. , , . . Wellington had a few very brief showers, hardly enough to wet the ground, 'the weather generally being fair to cloudy with cool temperatures. A fresh to strong southerly breeze prevailed, but the wind this morning was a light easterly. One point of rain was recorded at Kelburn and four hours of bright sunshine. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 53 and 45.8 degrees respectively. After a few passing showers in the morning, Christchurch had a fine and sunny afternoon, with a cold breeze from the south-west. The weather this morning was clear after a sharp frost last night, the wind being a light northerly breeze. Dunedin had fair weather yesterday with passing cloufl and sunshine, nnd with.a cool south-westerly breeze. The weather this morning was fine and the wind had decreased in force.
