EXCELLENT PROGRESS
CITY COMMISSIONS
ADJUSTMENT OF MORTGAGES
The city adjustment commissions in Wellington set up under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act, 1936, have made excellent progress, and the work should be finished by the end of the month. Applications to the commissions numbered 3500, of which 2500 have been heard and applicants' liabilities adjusted, 660 withdrawn, and 175 voluntarily adjusted, leaving a few applications to be disposed of this month.
Persons who have filed applications for the adjustment of city properties and whose applications have not yet been disposed of, are advised to communicate either with the secretary of the commissions at the Supreme Court, Wellington, or the solicitors who flled the applications.
Out of the 2500 adjustment orders that have been made, there have been approximately only 100 appeals, indicating that the findings of the commissions have been generally satisfactory. The appeals pending will be heard by the Court of Review in Wellington in the latter part of June. Originally there was only one adjustment commission in Wellington City, consisting of a chairman and three members, which started sitting on February 8, 1937. Two further commissions were set up about June of last year, and the three commissions then jconsisted each of a chairman and one member. At present only one commission is sitting.
Lower Hutt has been served by its own commission.
