DUNEDIN ELECTIONS
UNUSUAL INTEREST
THE MAYORAL CONTEST
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post") DUNEDIN. This Day.
A lot of dirty linen has been washed in the city municipal elections for Mayor and councillors. There have been many, bitter attacks on both sides, and not for many ' years has there been such interest taken in the election in Dunedin.
: There are two tickets, Labour and ' Citizens. The sitting Mayor, the Rev. E. T. Cox, who has already had five years in office, is the Labour candidate, and Mr. A. H. Allen, a city councillor and prominent business man, and ex-president of the Otago Cricket Association, is the Citizens' choice. Both parties are confident, and a close contest is expected. For the City Council Labour has a full ticket of twelve, including most of its present sitting members, while the Citizens have ten candidates. Two of the present councillors opposed to Labour are standing as independents, and a third is an ex-councillor and ex-Mayor.
Labour at the last election was successful; but it is not likely to have the same number returned on Wednesday, and its prospects of again ruling the of the for another three years; are not so bright as they were a few weeks ago.
