SLIGHT INCREASE IN PROFITS
New Zealand Newspapers, Limited, Auckland, earned net profit of £49,053 in the year ended March 31, 1938, compared with £48,006 in the previous period. Dividend, which a final of 8d a share brings to Is 4d for the full year, is at 8 per cent, per annum, compared with Is 3d a share, or 7£ per cent., a year ago. The directors' report states that the amount brought forward was £28,985, which, together with the net profit, gives £78,038, from which £19,917 was paid in interim dividend, leaving £58,121 available. Final dividend recommendation will require £19,917, leaving £38,204 to be carried forward. The retiring directors, Messrs. E. Anderson and W. H. E. Flint, are eligible for re-election. Gross profit was £134,265 against £112.998 last year. The balance-sheet items are as follows:—
