GALLEON'S MILE

RAIN-AFFECTED TRACK

(By Telegraplx—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, This Day.

Rain fell during training operations at Invercargill this morning, but was of short duration and conditions were favourable for most of the morning. All fast work was done on the course proper 30ft out from the rails and the going was heavy in places after rain overnight: Wynwood r;|i a mile in lmin 55sec, the last half-mile in 59sec. Waitoru and Invadere beat Aspire by ten lengths over seven furlongs in lmin 37sec, the last half-mile in 56 4-ssec. The former' pair finished on well and their time was the best for the morning over the distance. Aspire commenced to fade over the last three furlongs, and the going may have troubled her. Recall beat Dalrymple easily over seven furlongs, in lmin 38 2-ssec. Coxcomb, Amelita, and Galleon ran the best mile of the morning, covering the distance ' in lmin 52sec, the first half-mile in 54 4-ssec and the last in 57 l-ssec. Coxcomb and Amelita were responsible for all the paqe and just shaded Galleon, who stood them up a good start in the first half-mile and then closed on them in the straight after covering a lot of extra ground, Johnny and Barley Almond ran a mile in lmin 53 4-ssec." Western Song ran five furlongs in lmin 9 1-5 sec, and could have done better. Moneyless was not extended to beat Mona's Song and Foxlove over seven furlongs in lmin 38 2-ssec. Foxlove is a lazy worker, but Mona's Song was all at sea in the going, and she may not be a starter at Invercargill on Saturday if the track is heavy. Burwood, Wild Irishman, Grand Finale, Baltruin, and Triple Cone were among the horses that did useful work.
