EXPRESS DELAYED

WAGON DERAILED LUCKY ESCAPE FROM BIG SMASH (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. The midnight express from Invercargill to Christchurch was involved in an accident at 10.45 o'clock last night, a wagon containing oysters leaving the rails near Clarendon and being dragged for nearly a quarter of a mile along the track. The mishap was caused by a tyre on the front set of bogie wheels breaking. The wagon was directly behind seven carriages, so that the passengers were unaware of what had happened till the express stopped. The wagon was one of four. It is considered lucky that the other set of wheels did not leave the track and cause a general smash. The express was travelling fairly fast, nevertheless only minor damage was done to the track. The express was only an hour late at Dunedin. There was no interruption of traffic.
