SOCIAL AFTERNOON

Autumn - tinted chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, and berries made the Eng-lish-speaking * Union's clubroom an especially cheery refuge for the stormy weather yesterday afternoon, when the E.S.U. ladies' social afternoon took place. There was a good attendance, the guests being received by Mrs. E. D. Good, chairwoman of the ladies' committee.

Miss L. Hooper, matron of the Dental Clinic, and Miss Amy Kane both gave entertaining addresses, Miss Hooper speaking on child welfare in New Zealand and Miss Kane on child welfare in the East. Miss Doris Mildenhall recited, and afternoon tea was served by Mesdames J. S. Vinsen, E. D. Candy, A. M. Carr, and J. Southward.
