WAVERLEY RACES
(From "The Post's" Representative.) WANGANUI, April 29.
A glorious autumn day favoured the Waverley Hacing Club for its meeting, when smart suits and hats replaced the raincoats, so much needed during the week. The going was fairly heavy for the horses, the racing was exciting, and the attendance a record. Among the many present were Mesdames W. Simmons, P. H. Graves, J. Newland, J. J. Johnstone, Parsons (Waitotara), D. and C. Lupton, I. Parsons, C. V. Pearce, L. Honeyfield, E. Sampson (Wanganui). B. Barkman (Wanganui), W. A. Izard, H. Strauchon (Wanganui), S, Besley, H. J. Wilson, Simson Nukumaru), W. Wilson (Bulls), Patterson (Patea), J. O'Reilly, R. Searle, Walkinton, A. H. McLean (Wanganui), J. Peterson (Patea), X, Gibbons, J. B. Davis (Wanganui), J. Haddow (Patea), J. Stewart, T. Sampson, R. Orton (Wanganui), F. Jackson (Wanganui), P. A. O'Neill, Misses V.-Ham-mond, A. Powell, S. Wylds, A. Smith, S. Duncan, N. Russell M. Stone D. Mann P. Taylor, P. Simmons, N. Lupton, D. Simson, P. Gray, C. Newland, S. Izard, N. Patterson B. Wybourne, D. Handley, L. Watkins and N. Mathieson. Croquet Club Closing. Many visitors and friends were present at the Wanganui East croquet lawns, when the last games of the season were, played.' Mrs. BassettSmith presented the trophies won during the season and congratulated the club on the progress it had made. Mrs. Bradshaw is the club champion and won the Currin Cup,, the runner-up being; Mrs;., Currin. Mesdames Currin and Redpath won the championship doubles. Wedding. . . St. David's, Taihape, was the scene of an interesting wedding when Agnes, elder daughter of Mrs. D. McLennan, was married to Stanley Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Whiteman, Ngawaka> Autumn tints and greenery were used fsr decorating. The bride wore white satin and an exquisite lace veil and she carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Misses T. McLennan and J. Whiteman were bridesmaids wearing gold windswept satin, with gold bandeaux and short veils. Mr. H. O'Callaghan arid Mr. S. Steedman were best man and groomsman respectively. A reception was held in the Town Hall supper room, when Mrs. Whiteman wore a smart fuchsia frock of ripple cloque. Personals. Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Sommerville have returned to Okoia after a month's holiday in, Sydney. Mrs. F, Therkleston, who has been the guest of Mrs. F. Carpenter, St. John's Hill, has returned to New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Rouse, Dunedin, are visiting their daughter, Mrs. F. E. Smith.
