OWNERS FOR ONE DAY
The Wairoa Kacing . Club, on the occasion of the unveiling of the Carroll Memorial, has been granted an extra racing permit by the Minister of Internal Affairs for Saturday, May 28. The programme has been released, and it should meet with the requirements of owners, as. all grades have ■ been catered for. ,v ■; ■'•■.<.,•■■.' .
For the first time for many-years a hurdle race will be run. According to a Hawke's Bay writer, it is the very first time that a hurdle race has been staged on. the present Te Kupenga racecourse. ' , . -• . Another race for the first time in many years at Wairoa is the Takitimu Hack Handicap, lor Maori owners only, run over a distance of« six furlongs, and including a trophy. Quite.a few Maoris are at present endeavouring to lease a' horse for this. race, and as _ a fine ot £1 saves the trouble of registering and buying racing livery, these "ownere-for-one-day" will not be put to a great deal of expense.
