CHAMPIONSHIP DATES

CHRISTCHURCH, April 7,
January 25, 26, and 28 were fixed as dates for the junior and intermediate championships by the council of the New. Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at a meeting tonight. All copies of correspondence between the council and swimmers chosen for national honours, it was'decided, should be forwarded to the centres concerned. Following a report from the president on.his recent interview with the Auckland Centre, a letter was read from Mr. H. Goldsmith, delegate to the council, expressing appreciation of the visit and stating that Auckland would now work with renewed effort for the good of the sport. ' The former decision of the council to declare the butterfly stroke as illegal for breaststroke competition is to be discussed at a conference of centres to be held before the opening of next season. Tlie stroke is not banned by the International Federation but has been held by the English Association to be illegal.
Records approved were:—looyds senior breaststroke, Miss Joyce. MacDonald, lmin 16 l-ssec, at,..Gisborne; 50yds junior girls' breaststroke, Miss Mary Stewart, 40sec, at Dunedin; 50yds. junior girls' backstroke, Miss Nani Kira, 37 2-ssec, at Hamilton.
