CLOUDS PREVENT ANTIAIRCRAFT SHOOT

(By Telegraph—l'ress Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Keen disappointment was felt in military circles when the anti-aircraft target practice with New Zealand's new defence unit had to be postponed owing to low-lying clouds and the consequent inability to pick up the Fairey plane. The practice was to ba carried out by the 18th Anti-aircraft Territorial" Battery, under Major K. W, Fraser and the Director of Practices, Captain C, E. Weir, of the New Zealand Royal Artillery.

The Fairey plane left the Hpbsonville air base about 10 a.m., and when over Muriwai, on the west coast, put out a drogue or "sock" on 4000 ft of wire. The plane was in wireless communication with Hobsonville. which in turn was in communication with Muriwai military camp. Gunners stood by the anti-aircraft gun, but clouds provented them from getting a sight, and at 11.45 it was decided to postpone the practice either until later in/ the day or early tomorrow morning. There will be a searchlight practice this evenIn^
