OMINOUS ATTACKS
FINANCE PROPOSALS
FEAR OF BIG STRIKE
BLUM'S DOWNFALL
FORESEEN
PARIS, April 6.
M. Blum's early downfall is foreseen in the ominous attacks on his financial proposals.
In every newspaper except two which belong to the Left Wing the proposals are denounced as dangerous and as camouflaged inflation. M. Blum's argument that the launching of a long-term loan is impossible because of the international situation is rejected.
It is rumoured that M. Blum will resign before facing the Senate, following which hopes will be bright for a long-awaited National Ministry. Fears* are being expressed of a general strike in the metal industry resulting in 100,000 workers being idle. <A deadlock has resulted from the employers' refusal to consider the Government's proposal to submit wage 'increases to arbitration. The unions blame the employers for the strikes on the ground that their refusal to arbitrate is prompted by political motives.
